The Student Authentication Problem

How do you ensure that the student who enrolled in an online course is the same student participating in the course and receiving academic credit?

The Student Authentication Solution

ProctorFree provides student authentication solutions for today’s online education environment. Our technology serves as a bridge to verify that your students are in fact real and are the same students that enrolled in your online courses.

How it Works

ProctorFree offers multi-step authentication that plugs directly into your Course Management (CMS) or Learning Management System (LMS) using Learning Tools Interoperability Open Authentication (LTI-OAuth).

Additionally, ProctorFree’s authentication solution can be operated independently of your system and, with a couple simple technical steps, act as the gateway.

*We’re willing to customize to your security token standards.

Authentication vs. Authorization

Authentication is the first step, putting the key in the lock, and getting through the door.

Authorization is what happens next or “behind the door” and doesn’t require you to change existing protocols.

ProctorFree’s authentication system allows us to separate authentication from your authorization. Your LMS or system uses your authorization, user ID, and login but uses our authentication token as your password thus tying authentication to your authorization.

Why is Student Authentication Important?

The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008

Institutions offering online courses are required by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 to have processes in place to verify that the student who signs up or registers for a distance education course or similar program is the same student that participates in the courses and receives the academic credit.

ProctorFree’s online student authentication solution meets the standards outlined in the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008. ProctorFree also ensures all of our solutions are FERPA compliant and we maintain focus on keeping the institution and student protected by requiring the minimum amount of information and treating it with the strictest protocols. Authentication solutions and technology has long been in place in other industries and can be easily adopted to fit the needs of higher education.

Cost

There’s no need to adopt expensive or cumbersome processes to add an additional layer of security. Our pricing model is simple and flexible.
