Good golly Miss Molly, we had so much fun at Campus Technology 2014 that we applied to present at Campus Tech’s Chicago Fall Forum in November and we got accepted! Jeffrey Kaplan, our Director of Partner Relations/me, will be giving a presentation titled Creating Culture in a Hybrid Class Through Social Media.

This presentation will be designated under the “Industry Direction” under the focus area of “Teaching and Learning in the Digital Age.”   The Campus Technology team really knows how to throw together a good conference and we really cannot wait to meet the other speakers, mingle with exhibitors, and learn. Here’s a little about the conference in their own words,

“Join leading colleges and universities for an exciting day-and-a-half-long investigation of best practices for becoming an innovative and connected campus. Campus Technology Fall Forum—a new addition to the Forum event series brought to you by the award-winning Campus Technology team—explores the major issues of the day facing administrators, educators, IT support managers and directors to meet modern challenges by developing collaborative strategies to coordinate, integrate and support the educational pipeline.”

By now I’m sure you are just chomping at the bit to find out more about our talk. So here’s the abstract:

At the University of Florida the Introduction to Entrepreneurship course is taught in a hybrid setting with some sections meeting face-to-face while others meet solely online. All students meet and interact through Canvas, Facebook, and Twitter. The live lectures are recorded and posted in a Canvas site so all students are engaged in the exact same content. To bridge the sections and build a culture social media is used as a tool to engage students in regular discussions and sharing of entrepreneurial ideas. The Canvas course site activities including weekly discussions encourage students to get involved and stay connected. Weekly additional live sessions bring students into the classroom for enrichment activities such as a creativity workshop or interviews with entrepreneurs. Students connect with each other and the instructional team on Facebook via a group and on Twitter via a hashtag (#ENT3003) with the course code. This presentation will discuss what strategies worked well and how they can be implemented in other courses.

Here’s a quick preview:
